Cowichan Independent Living Resource Center provides accessible services, equipment, information, and assistance for people with disabilities throughout the Cowichan Valley. Explore our services below and contact our team if you need help finding the right support.

Accessible Parking Permits

Greater Access Wherever You Go

Accessible parking permits help people with mobility limitations use designated parking spaces throughout British Columbia.

Temporary Permit

For people recovering from an injury, surgery, or another temporary condition affecting their mobility. A new application is required if additional time is needed.

Pricing: $25.00 per

One Year Permit

Permanent Permit

For people with permanent mobility limitations. Contact our office when your permit is approaching its renewal date.

Pricing: $30.00 per

Three year Permit

Organization Permit

For eligible organizations that regularly transport people with disabilities.

Pricing: $50.00 per

One Year Permit

If your parking placard gets lost or stolen, we can issue a replacement for the expiration date of the original

Price: $15.00 per

How To Apply

  • Download the application or pick up a copy from our office.

  • Complete the applicant section.

  • Have an approved medical professional complete the medical section when required.

  • Return the completed application with payment to Cowichan Independent Living Resource Center.

  • Our team will review and process your permit.

Our Medical Equipment Loan Program provides short-term access to mobility aids, bathroom safety equipment, hospital beds, and other medical devices.

These amounts are suggested donations. Please speak with our team if you are unable to donate. We will still work with you to find the equipment you need.

How To Request Equipment

Contact our office to check availability. Tell us what equipment you need, when you need it, and how long you expect to use it.

An assessment from an occupational therapist is recommended for specialized equipment. This helps make sure the equipment suits your needs and supports safe use.

Medical Equipment Sales

Affordable Equipment That Supports Our Center

A limited selection of reasonably priced medical equipment is available for purchase. Inventory and pricing depend on current donations and available items.

Money received from equipment sales goes back into the Resource Center and helps support our services.

Volunteer Income Tax Program

Free Tax Help for Eligible Residents

Our trained volunteers help eligible residents prepare and electronically file simple income tax returns. Tax assistance is available for people with modest incomes who meet the program requirements.

Eligibility

The current eligibility limit for one person is an annual income below $40,000. Your tax return must involve a simple tax situation.

  • Scholarships, Fellowships, Bursaries, and Grants Interest income Over $1,000.00

What To Bring

Bring all T4s, T5s, benefit statements, tax documents, and other forms for the year being filed. You must also complete the Cowichan Independent Living tax intake form.

If you are applying for the BC Renter’s Tax Credit, complete the renter’s tax credit declaration.
